The .444 Marlin is a large bore rifle cartridge developed by Marlin Firearms in 1964. It was designed to provide a powerful alternative to the .45-70 Government cartridge for hunters who wanted a heavy bullet with a flat trajectory at longer ranges.
The .444 Marlin fires a .429 caliber bullet with a typical weight of 240 to 300 grains at a muzzle velocity of around 2,300 to 2,600 feet per second. The cartridge has a rimmed, bottlenecked case with a maximum overall length of 2.55 inches, making it suitable for use in lever-action rifles.
