The .30-06 cartridge, also known as the 7.62×63mm in metric notation, is a rifle cartridge that was developed in the early 20th century for use in military and hunting rifles. The name "30-06" refers to the caliber of the bullet (.30 inches) and the year of adoption by the US Army (1906).

The cartridge has a rimless, bottlenecked design, meaning that the base of the cartridge is wider than the neck. It uses a bullet with a diameter of .308 inches and has a case length of 2.494 inches. The original military load used a 150-grain spitzer bullet with a muzzle velocity of approximately 2,700 feet per second, although there are many different bullet weights and loadings available for the cartridge today.

The .30-06 cartridge has a long and distinguished history, having been used by the US military in both World War I and World War II, as well as in countless hunting and sporting applications around the world. It is renowned for its accuracy, versatility, and stopping power, and is still a popular choice among hunters, shooters, and military enthusiasts today.
